Historical Books for Children

A Butterfly by Patricia Polacco - During Nazi occupation in France one little girl finds that her mother is hiding Jews in their cellar.

Boxes for Katje by Candace Fleming - Following WWII Katje, in Holland, receives a box from America.  She writes back to thank her gifter and receives more boxes, supplying her, her family, and friends with supplies to get through a long cold winter.

When Jessie Came Across the Sea by Amy Hest - Jessie is chosen to use the one ticket to America that her rabbi has.  This story tells of her traveling alone, her adjustments, and reunion when she has earned enough to send for her grandmother.
