My Own Hair

After watching several youtube videos that all told me to do the exact same thing, I decided that I'd give it a try.  What could I lose?  Nothing, is what I figured.  I'd either: cut my own hair for free and save $15-$40 or have to go in to get it fixed.  Kj was around to capture it on "film".  She's practicing using her camera for her upcoming trip to see her cousin.  So, here it is:

Make a ponytail at the center of your forehead.  Make sure to smooth out your hair around your head.  Someone with not very many waves said to straighten it, but that was a bit much for me.

Then from your forehead, you pull your hair straight down to where you want your first layer to start.  Typically, I'm not much for layering, but I went with it this time.  I expect it is possible that I will have years of experimenting in this...and on multiple girl heads!

Then start cutting, slowly and carefully, as straight as you can.

Check your progress from different angles and snip a little more.  ;)

Take out that rubber band and do some smoothing and separating.  Then taking smaller portions you do some snipping to make the edges seem less abrupt.  I even used the thinning scissors as suggested by one lady.  This is my kind of project...not too precise.

Concentration!

Ok, seriously, this computer and the formatting on here is really getting the best of me right now!  But I did want to show you the final product and the final figures on amount saved that day.  5 heads home-cut = approximately $100 savings!!!  Winning!!

Uncle Zac Hair and Growing Babes!

Mn's been sweating like crazy these last few weeks.  He had a bit longer haircut, but I decided I better try shorter.  Several of my friends buzz their boys' hairs, but then slather on sunscreen.  Well, I am trying for middle ground - less sweating, no slathering.  Here is what we got:

The comb job reminds me of my brother in jr. high school or high school.  Very nice.  :)  What do you think, Zac, should I slather the sunscreen anyways and comb it this way?

Congratulations to my brother too on the arrival of his baby girl M!!  The day she was born I was taking care of a 3 day old foster babe and I imagined meeting my niece!

Here is my growing Babe Mn.  I realized that he took up most of his crib the other day and had to get a picture!  He can crawl in and out of the crib now, so the one rail is lowered, so it is basically a toddler bed.  Just haven't made the switch...  If you "highlight" the picture you can kind of see his outline a bit more.

Haircut Day

L just turned 3 a couple months ago, and for some reason grew very particular about her hair.  She would not let me put anything in it anymore.  So, I decided to ask if she would like it cut, even though I thought it was so pretty!  It took me a month talking about it with her and trying several new tactics to see if she would let me put things in her hair...and then it was haircut day.  Kevin needed one badly too (sorry no pics), and so he went first then the girls.

"Cut it all." and "All of it,"  were the words from L while cutting.  I did, I am.  See!

There she is with her ponytail.  Long enough to donate, although it's still sitting in my room waiting for me to get to the post office.

Here's Kj.  I had to talk her out of a short cut like L's.  I reminded her that she wouldn't be able to use all her new pretty rubberbands from her birthday if we cut it all off.  Also, that ponytails are so nice in the summer and for kindergarten!  Whew, it worked!

Here's the pretty girl showing off her trim.   She's in a silly - exaggerating posing stage.  :)

The end product (minus the donateable portion).  Below, the girls trying to get their pose together for the sister picture.  Kj tries to tell L what to do with her arms, and L knows what she wants, and it's not that...whatever that is!

Even the bed head is beautiful!

5 Years and 15 Inches

The time has come again to donate some hair.  Laura from church has a new "studio" at her home for her art (of hair designing).  Lisa from my small group had mentioned going there and enjoying her experience and since I have no regular hair cutting establishment, besides Great Clips with a coupon, I decided to try it out.  What a pleasant experience!  The girls came with me and she had a little suitcase in the corner for them to find toys in.  When we left, Kj said, "Mama, you should go there all the times."  :)  I just might.

At our next stop, my friend said, "You look ten years younger!"  This makes me laugh because some people think I look 16.  I'm sure she meant my real age.  Haha.

Well, I did it!  I'll try to post a non-styled/beautified picture as well!  Thanks Laura!!  You are extremely skilled.

Pinterest Hair

I have a few friends on Pinterest that have been pinning pictures of hair ideas...so, since I have been in a rut lately, I decided to take their ideas and try them out.  This one turned out ok, although my hair was a little long for winding up into a bun.  I should have had Kevin take a picture of it all, but...  I was in a rush.

I thought I had a picture of the other hairstyle that I tried, but couldn't find it.  It consisted of 3 braids made into 3 buns, all clustered at the back of my head.  Sorry about that.  The next hair pictures will be short, I believe...within a month.  Hope you can wait for that!
