Surprise!

Grandma came today.  Adults knew, Aunt R instigated, kids were oblivious.  Right now Mn has her in his room playing Legos.  Just before lunch, Mn and I went outside to pick up sticks in the yard.  Then, we took pictures of our neighbors' spring flowers, then we followed the mail-lady down the street, "but we're going to stay on {__} Street."  We saw a grey car turning around, looked like Grandpa J in his car.  A few moments later, another grey car drives by (Grma), but it couldn't be because it was stopping in front of the next house, not travelling on to our house.

Grandma gets out of the car and walks around.  Mn: "Grandma's here!!!  Does she have luggage?!"  Before a hug he looks in the front seat window, then he looks in the backseat window.  Still not seeing any, he climbs into the back seat and pulls down the center armrest and then opens the secret door to the trunk.  "THERE'S LUGGAGE!!"  He climbs out excited, but gets ready to climb back in for a ride down the street.  "But can I get a hug?" says Grandma.

She parked around the block and walked around to the backyard to see the girls.  I was in the kitchen by then and in a high excited voice Kj exclaims, "Curl Grandma's here!!!"  Hugs all around.

After Mn had gone to fetch the car and unload it with Grandma (this boy is always up for a job).  Job complete he takes off his jacket and boots in the kitchen, under his breath I hear him whisper, "She's a tricker."  Relaying the story to Aunt R, she claims, "Next time...I'll hide myself in the trunk..."  :)

Any Day Now

I'm finding treasures while organizing.

I saw a stack of books that were my dad's, that we haven't shelved yet...yes, it's been a while...  Looking through one, I found a cropped photo copy of a hymn.  I don't have the same hymnal, so, I found it in what I did have.  I decided to trace the note that my dad wrote on the hymn into my hymnal for safe keeping.  (You never know when I might recycle random loose papers!)

Formula Feeding Tip

Two weeks ago we welcomed a babe into our lives.  Middle of the night formula feedings were inevitable, and here is what's working...

We have a water bottle that keeps it's contents hot or cold.  In the evening, we rinse it with hot water and then fill it with water the temperature that the formula should be.  As long as we close the lid all the way, the water stays just right to prepare bottles all night long!  No waiting for the water to warm up or having a bottle warmer or however we've previously gotten it just right!  Ah, such a pleasant discovery!

Neighbor Baking

I decided to do some baking with the girls the last few days.  We've made banana bread, brownies, and there are oatmeal bars in the oven right now.  Kj's plan is to fill a basket with the yummies and walk around the neighborhood to deliver them.  She mentioned "that lady".  What lady?  "The lady that we went to her house when our line was down."  That was this summer.  Our phone/internet line went down and we found that our neighbor (an older couple) was in their garage, so we asked to use their phone.  I hadn't thought of them.  :)  I'm not sure how we'll divide everything up or how we'll package it, but I am sure Kj has a plan for that as well.

...

We did it.  We passed out the goodies, but "that lady" wasn't home so her treats are still on our counter.  Haven't gotten back out.
